I don’t know why but I seem to see red haired women everywhere in London now, ever since —– went red. It reminds me of my very first trip to Vienna when the redhead women everywhere were one of the most striking features of the entire stay. All my writing is written when I was travelling or when I am longing, looking forward to travelling. There is a lesson in that. All my greatest sexual experiences came in kinos, another lesson. I have had many erotic near-misses at the Wigmore Hall, times when if I had acted something should have happened, I do find it an incredibly erotic place, all the more so because it is barely repressed, all that erotic Viennese chamber music. Schoenberg’s Second String Quartet. Berg’s Lyric Suite. Schoenberg Verklarte Nacht. Alexandra Dariescu playing Wagner’s Liebestod amidst the ferns and the palms, while I incidentally was not there, stuck in the — unable to tear myself away last Friday night. —– was at the salon and in the end I couldn’t be bothered to drag myself all the way across London, though I regret it now. I don’t know why but that missed concert haunts me. When I did tear myself away I headed straight to Sonia but she had already finished.
