This trip to Vienna takes a predictable turn for the worse as I try to get home. Because of snow in Zurich, where I am connecting, and where I see no gnomes, my flight leaves Vienna 55 minutes late, and hurrying for the plane at Zurich I miss the connection to London by the skin of my teeth. You might have thought they would have been expecting me, and knew I was just getting off the previous plane, but no, they had no record of me, which they all agree is very strange, and seemed so surprised to see me that their spectacles nearly fell off the ends of their little Swiss noses. Therefore I must wait 3 hours 45 minutes for the next flight. I now scarcely have time to get home before I have to leave for work. Lady Gaga’s Edge of Glory plays in the airport bar just behind me. I came nowhere near the edge of glory, not until the final night in Fortuna Kino, and even after that I went straight back to the hotel. I had singularly failed to crack the Vienna nut. There were Esmeraldas all around me but I had no desire to do anything with them. I just could not get turned on enough to even think of it. The ruined video kabins of Peep Lerchenfelder Gurtel and ML Revue stymied any attempts to get myself in the mood. The rubbish kino at Josefstadt also was no use. That made going into the few remaining girlie bars of the Gurtel completely cold, in every sense, with predictable results. I could not shake my ennui. Forcing myself out to find Fortuna Kino on the last night at least offered me the first genuine arousal of the entire 3-night stay. It has just started snowing again here at Zurich Airport. Don’t tell me my flight is going to be cancelled because of snow.
