I always laugh in the Ciné ABC at the signs saying optimistically “New films every Wednesday!”

I always laugh in the Ciné ABC, at the signs saying optimistically “New films every Wednesday!” Well, yes, new in the sense that they are different from what was on the day before, but not strictly “new” when they are all from the 1970s! On this occasion it was Woman in Love: A Story of Madame Bovary from 1978 with a very beautiful Laurien Dominique. “Flaubert once described literature as ‘the dissection of a beautiful woman with her guts in her face, her leg skinned, and half a burned-out cigar lying on her foot.’ So he takes this young woman who is innocent to the ways of the world and throws some kinks into all of her dreams and plans. He makes her ‘real.’ We can see and feel what’s going on in the story. At the same time, though, he leaves Emma somewhat removed—-at a distance. ” The sex scenes are much shorter in these old 1970s films compared to the interminable never-ending scenes of today; the men get it over with very quickly, which as I mentioned before is much more true to life, in my experience. The stripper who comes on stage (in a manner of speaking) every hour is a delightful interlude and is something all adult cinemas should do I think.

Memories of this holiday? The two gorgeous steaks in Brussels Grill

Memories of this holiday? The two gorgeous steaks in Brussels Grill. The ham & egg roll from the Gare du Midi café. The good film in the ABC and the good film in the Paris. That is all. The pleasurable hours spent drinking in the Café du Dome. It has been a pleasant dipping my toes back in the cold icy water. When the Ciné ABC stripper (black African) came on stage for two songs, me and the other man in the front row carried on w—king as we watched her dance (paying her the ultimate compliment). You can’t do that in London. And you don’t have adult cinemas as big as they are here in Brussels. The ABC is gorgeous, like an old bathhouse. And the Paris is veritably plush. I didn’t see ANY of the roving bands of North Africans and so no one tried to rob me for the first time in years. I think because I did what I had to do in the afternoons and early evenings.

Lulu was a massive disappointment. It sucked 2 hours out of my night (I left at the first interval) and I never got the excitement back try as I might. Ciné ABC and Ciné Paris were both great. The 1970s hairy pornography of the ABC followed by the Marc Dorcel high-class erotica of the Paris. I should have stayed. Leaving Lulu, I headed straight to Gare du Nord. The window girls of the Rue d’Aerschot are the most beautiful Esmeraldas I have ever seen in my life. Every one of them is like supermodel or actress beautiful. Just the environment is so shabby and threatening! In Berlin sex is everywhere but they have no girls as beautiful as this; but the environment is much nicer. Nice art nouveau bars you can sit with the girls in first. From there back to Empire. Empire is a really mediocre strip club, with mediocre girls. Similar to Munich’s Atlantic City but the Atlantic City always has 2 or 3 real stars; not here at the Empire. And each small beer costs 10 euros! The one great and clever thing they do is not charge you to enter. This is so sensible—it makes it easy to drop in and check out what the place is like. Gascogne should adopt this method, and they might not be empty every night.

I had to laugh. The poster in ABC says “new films every Wednesday!”. New is only in a very limited sense of the word considering all the films are from the 1970s. Whereas the Cine Paris has the newest high quality French porn. The Cine Paris roused me to a very high pitch of arousal indeed.

I was thinking what has happened to Brussels last night, it seemed quite full of life. There was at least 10 people in the Dome Café talking merrily and convivially, there was man on man action going on in the first row of the ABC, which also had at least 10 people there, there was 10 again in Empire—wow! I thought, some life. The Manhattan bar, however, was shut, and the Gascogne surprise surprise was open once more, though better if it was not. A shithole.
