Such boring beermats they have here in the Café du Dome

Such boring beermats they have here in the Café du Dome. I think a beermat is a chance to make a work of art—my two Berliner Kindl beermats are something that I treasure. But so many beermats are just wasted opportunities. I am a connoisseur. The shape of the beerglass makes such a difference; so does the beermat. Sitting here at the junction of Boulevard Adolphe Max and Boulevard du Jardin Botanique I see no pretty women whatsoever. In 10 minutes at Gare du Midi I can capture a hundred beautiful specimens, like a butterfly catcher with a net. Such a shame that there are no longer any bars to drink in within Gare du Midi.

I saw more gorgeous sexy girls at Gare du Midi in the 10 minutes I was there than I do in London in a whole week

I saw more gorgeous, sexy girls at Gare du Midi in the 10 minutes I was there than I do in London in a whole week. So sad that I have lost Maes Corner to sit and watch them from (I already lost the Pullman about 5 years ago). There is now nowhere in Gare du Midi to have a drink?

Well the first disappointments of this trip

Well, the first disappointments of this trip—the little corner seats in the St Pancras undercroft café where I used to wait for my Eurostar are now blocked off. Then I arrive at Brussels Gare du Midi and head straight to Maes Corner bar to find it has gone. I see absolutely no North Africans anywhere—of course not, they are sleeping now, it is just 1PM. They only come out at nights. I look forward to seeing them tonight.

Walking through Midi station I remember what a magical scary promised land Europe used to be. No more

Walking through Midi station I remember what a magical, scary, promised land Europe used to be. No more. More than anything I’d like to see ….. dance again. …. behind the bar.

I stay at the Plaza Hotel when in Berlin—mainly because of its absolutely gorgeous bar

I stay at the Plaza Hotel when in Berlin—mainly because of its absolutely gorgeous bar, all mahogany and brass. The beer is cold and the food is good. I used to stay at the Kanthotel in Kantstraße to be close to the brothels of Stuttgarter Platz but they had no proper bar, and the minibar beer, Jever, was execrable. So I found the Plaza. They really should let trains from Western Europe stop at Berlin Zoo, instead of forcing us to go on to the new Central Station, as spectacular as it is. It seems an act of spite. Berlin Zoo has been relegated to a deadwater now. I always follow my instincts. —– was the most important thing in my life, I burned for her every second of the day and night, so I pursued her and pursued her till I got her. Travelling is something I think about all the time so I have started doing it again. I don’t want to live alone again, in a little nest. That was so cold and lonely. Waking up every morning alone. Travelling is great for crystallising one’s thoughts.

My first impression of Gare du Midi. My old favourite bar has gone

May 25, 2016 § Leave a comment

My first impression of Gare du Midi. My old favourite bar has gone. The place is still full of pleasingly plump girls all around. I think I will come back from this with my love for —– strengthened, redoubled—but I fear it will be the opposite for her. This may be the trip that loses me —–. “Far from falling in love/let me explain”. Dangerous.
