The fact that I have paid £600 off my Barclaycard in the space of a month shows what is possible. I don’t think I am going to go to Vienna in December

The fact that I have paid £600 off my Barclaycard in the space of a month shows what is possible. I don’t think I am going to go to Vienna in December. I think I would rather keep waiting and keep saving. So when I do travel I will have a real war chest to travel with. I was thinking in the Calcutta on Thursday that there is nothing worth spending money on except sex. If it is a choice between seeing Volver or A Scanner Darkly, or going to see a girl take her knickers off to music, then there can only be one winner. You see people who go on beach holidays, or Amalfi, and I think how bored I would be. The only holiday that means anything is in red light districts. To meet new strippers and new Esmeraldas. What is wrong with running a high debt? We will see how high my Virgin interest is when that hits in October. In McDonald’s most beautiful gorgeous voluptuous brunette girl, maybe 18 or 19, skin tight black top over rolls of fat and big fat huge breasts, thick yellow snakeskin belt, blue jeans over fat bottom, pretty pretty face, little snub nose. I could not take my eyes off her & she knew it as she finally shot me a glance as I stepped forward to order. Nothing in the city matters except sex, the buying and selling of it, young women stripping for you, young women lying back on the bed and opening their legs for you, men all with their cocks out in a dark porn cinema. This is the reality of my life.

30 October Berlin for Violeta Urmana in La Mort de Cleopatra, 31 October for Prokina in Hamburg, 1 & 2 November Copenhagen for Mak Case

30 October Berlin for Violeta Urmana in La Mort de Cleopatra, 31 October for Prokina in Hamburg, 1 & 2 November Copenhagen for Mak Case. All those plane trips to Berlin, Vienna, Munich were so boring because it took me two hours to get to Heathrow, an hour for waiting, 2 hours for flight, whereas the joy of Eurostar is it takes me just 30 minutes to get there, and I can be on my way. I want to taste a bit of Brussels, the Wiertz & Modern Art & Gare du Nord, then a bit of Munich, Lamm’s & Atlantic City, then a bit of Nuremberg, Pils & Caribic, then a bit of Vienna, Seilerstätte, Radisson SAS, Manhattan & Pour Platin, then Berlin Plaza for knesepfanne & Berliner Pils, Alte National Gallery, BEC, Sarah Young, Stuttgarter Platz, Ciro, Violeta Urmana, then Hamburg for Prokina. I think Copenhagen would be too far. Save money (!) for La Traviata in Berlin in January with Anna Samuil. Look at the great memories from the past—it is ALL whores and porn films! Almost never strippers! Not since red wig DD days, Czech Boulevard girl, Carnival fat bottomed girl. Innocent days. Minnie the Moocher days. But the great joy is spending some long time in a city, and being able to relax. Settle into the hotel bar every night watching the TV, seeing the single women, like with Nicky and others in the Brussels Ibis. To try and squeeze four cities into one trip is madness. Be nice to relax in Brussels for four days, a trip to Namur?, before getting long train to Berlin, for four days there. All the time in the world to relax in Brussels, Pullman Bar, Radisson SAS or Ibis, Wiertz, Modern, Empire on the Saturday night, Gare du Nord. All the time looking forward to that long trip to Berlin & Berlin Plaza. So I can have a knesepfanne when I arrive & a Berliner Pils. Or should I leave Berlin to January for La Traviata? And go first to Munich for just two nights, then on to Vienna for three nights. Settle into Brussels and draw out all the smutty possibilities from its morbid eroticism. Really, there is nothing unmissable that would make me go to Berlin in October, but there is in January for La Traviata. Even Prokina in Hamburg is not so riveting. Maybe maybe Urmana in Cleopatra on 30 October. It would nice to go to Dresden to see the cathedral?

So no I did not manage to crack the Vienna nut and never will now

So no, I did not manage to crack the Vienna nut, and never will now. There feels nothing here for me. I have not found even one, or two places, to make me feel at home here. The hotel meal was poor and the Augustinerkeller meal was even worse. A relief to grab a McDonald’s from Westbahnhof on my way back tonight. I did manage to find my way to Fortuna Kino in Favoritenstraße. At last, a good old-fashioned adult cinema, and a good Italian film. I think Italian pornography is the best. At last, finally, I managed to sustain a full erection. It took me three nights to even manage a proper erection—that says it all. The Gurtel was meant to be the biggest red light district in Vienna, and back in the snow in 2005 I came down it and was going in one club after another, they never seemed to end. And to find the only place where I slept with a girl in Vienna totally gone, an empty lot where it used to be, was particularly disspiriting, and is really a great symbol of how pointless this trip now feels. As much as I love this hotel, I will never come to Vienna again. Good riddance, they cry!

I always laugh in the Ciné ABC at the signs saying optimistically “New films every Wednesday!”

I always laugh in the Ciné ABC, at the signs saying optimistically “New films every Wednesday!” Well, yes, new in the sense that they are different from what was on the day before, but not strictly “new” when they are all from the 1970s! On this occasion it was Woman in Love: A Story of Madame Bovary from 1978 with a very beautiful Laurien Dominique. “Flaubert once described literature as ‘the dissection of a beautiful woman with her guts in her face, her leg skinned, and half a burned-out cigar lying on her foot.’ So he takes this young woman who is innocent to the ways of the world and throws some kinks into all of her dreams and plans. He makes her ‘real.’ We can see and feel what’s going on in the story. At the same time, though, he leaves Emma somewhat removed—-at a distance. ” The sex scenes are much shorter in these old 1970s films compared to the interminable never-ending scenes of today; the men get it over with very quickly, which as I mentioned before is much more true to life, in my experience. The stripper who comes on stage (in a manner of speaking) every hour is a delightful interlude and is something all adult cinemas should do I think.

My idea of a perfect pornographic film is the claustrophobic opulent grandeur of a Berlin apartment

My idea of a perfect pornographic film is the claustrophobic opulent grandeur of a Berlin apartment, or a Munich apartment, or a Vienna apartment, all ferns and mirrors and fin-de siècle beauty, then the corset is taken off, and all the clothes follow it to the floor, and suddenly there is total priapic nudity amidst this opulent splendour.

I had to laugh. The poster in ABC says “new films every Wednesday!”

I had to laugh. The poster in ABC says “new films every Wednesday!”. New is only in a very limited sense of the word considering all the films are from the 1970s. Whereas the Cine Paris has the newest high quality French porn. The Cine Paris roused me to a very high pitch of arousal indeed.

So the best memories of this trip—the Nadine Jansen films in Rosa Luxemburg kino and the Ciné Paris

So the best memories of this trip—the Nadine Jansen films in Rosa Luxemburg kino and the Ciné Paris. That says it all. He just sits there slapping that fruit machine button like a retard. I will return to Soho cinema at the first opportunity, and check out Alex, Vanessa, and Katy. I have three days more off in London. The boyfriend might even be the manager. He certainly takes a quite proprietorial attitude to the place, and to her. Still the slap-slap-slap. Does he do this from opening time to closing time? This bar would be absolutely lovely without that idiot at the machines. The other best memories are the new paintings I saw in the Berlinische and the Brohan Museums.
